The Muckleshoot community, Planning Commission, and Planning Department are updating the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe's Comprehensive Plan. The Muckleshoot Reservation is a special place to many in our community. Over the next year we will be conducting events to hear your ideas and vision as members of the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe for the future of this area. This website is your portal to all information related to the Comprehensive Plan Update, including news, upcoming meetings, and project documents.

We look forward to hearing from you at an event or online!

Why is this important?

The Comprehensive Plan establishes a framework for how the Tribe makes decisions on topics like land use, the environment, transportation systems, and social issues that the community faces. Goals, policies and strategies are included in the Comprehensive to identify potential ways to address key challenges and opportunities.

The Comprehensive Plan is about the Muckleshoot community, the unique natural attributes of our lands, and our knowledge and traditions with smart growth principles for better connected and integrated neighborhoods. It will also include strategies for addressing challenges that come with growth and the demand for land as the Tribe continues to grow.

Stay Involved!

The project team will provide multiple opportunities for community members to participate throughout the next year. For more information on when and how to join in, make sure to check back here regularly.

A Comprehensive Plan is a tool used to guide development and decisions within the community. It provides specific policies and requirements for land use corresponding to different areas of the Reservation. The document is a roadmap for where housing and businesses may be located, and where investments for transportation, parks, utilities, and other assets need to be made.

The Muckleshoot Indian Tribe's Comprehensive Plan was last updated in 2008, and a lot has changed on the Reservation in those years. Updating the Comprehensive Plan is an opportunity to review existing policies to see if they still make sense for the Muckleshoot community, and to write new policies that reflect current priorities. This update also focuses on updating the future land use map to identify where growth should, or shouldn't go, on the Reservation.

The updated Comprehensive Plan will include updates to all chapters, including:

  • Vision, Values and Guiding Principles
  • Culture and Character
  • Land use
  • Housing
  • Utilities and Public Services
  • Transportation
  • Intergovernmental/Interjurisdictional Collaboration
  • Social Environment
  • Tribal Services
  • Natural Environment
  • Parks, Recreation, and Community Events
  • Economic Development

The Muckleshoot Reservation Comprehensive Plan is being led by the Muckleshoot Planning Department at the direction of the Planning Commission and Tribal Council. The Project Team is made up of Tribal staff and consultants.

The Muckleshoot Reservation Comprehensive Plan project is anticipated to be completed in 2025.

Community involvement is vital to this project. There will be multiple opportunities for community members to participate both in-person and online. The Project Team has prepared a detailed Tribal Outreach Implementation Plan (TOIP) that includes engagement goals and metrics to ensure broad participation. Over the course of the two-year process, the Project Team will ensure that there is wide community agreement on the vision, goals, projects, and components included in the updated plan.
